Arduino Based Ambient Gamma Radiation Monitor Using High Voltage Geiger Muller Tube Interface

SunFounder IIC I2C TWI Serial 2004 20x4 LCD Module Shield for Arduino Uno Mega2560

Schematic is weird so when you open with Fritzing, things are moved around for some reason.

This repository contains the source code to implement a low-cost, yet effective and extensible Geiger Counter (aka Dosimeter), using an Arduino Uno (ATmega328P microcontroller) and a Geiger-Müller Tube (in my case, it was the J305β Geiger-Müller tube). You will also need a DC-DC Voltage Boost Converter because the voltage provided by the Arduino (5V DC) is nowhere close to what is required by the Geiger-Müller Tube (can range from anywhere between 350V to 1000V DC).

I'm using Matplotlib to plot the values of radiation against time. Specifically, μSv/hr (microSieverts/hour) vs time (seconds) and CPM (Counts per Minute) vs time (seconds) A better solution would be to use the RRDtool, as we're logging and plotting time-series data. Plotting the values in real-time would be cool. I am yet to implement this, however.

Compile the .ino file and dump it onto the Arduino. You should start hearing the buzzer clicks as soon as the code is dumped. To view the measurements, open the serial monitor and select the appropriate port.
